Nearly 38 years have passed since I first set foot on American soil. My journey began as a dedicated dietitian in Korea, where I spent a substantial 5 years at ADD. Fast forward to my early 50s, and I immersed myself in American culinary culture, embracing the role of a dietitian. It’s worth noting that with completion of DPD, I am not a Registered Dietitian (RD) due to unforeseen circumstances during the internship stage.

As life, ever unpredictable, led me down the path of becoming an artist, it brought a new chapter to my life. Yet, amidst the strokes of creativity, my passion for cooking remains unwavering. When the pressures of artistry become too much, the kitchen is my sanctuary—where I cook away stress and rediscover joy.

My dedication to culinary education took on a new dimension as I engaged in various volunteer roles as a cooking class instructor. Picture this; guiding adopted children through the delightful world of cooking, crafting specialized dishes for moms of children with autism, and sharing the art of Kimchi-making with my high school alma mater and the vibrant community of women at my church.

As an adopted member of the so-called salad bowl that is America, I’ve assimilated a myriad of ethnic flavors into my daily meals. With the increasing interest in K-food, it feels like the perfect time to share my recipes.

This book is more than a collection of recipes; it’s a narrative of my journey and a celebration of diverse culinary experiences. Join me in savoring the richness of our food culture and extending a warm welcome to others.
